What I Did Not Know:
In a house in Apomattox VA, General Ulysses Grant met with General Lee to sign the first surrender of a Confederate Army in the Civil war. The part that was new to me was that Grant initially had a difficult time and awkwardly tried to make small talk as if delaying the inevitable. It was Lee who finally directed the conversation to the task at hand. I also thought it a great show of character for Grant to denounce any rejoycing or celebration by Union soldiers.
